Aurelia's Indian Food Festival

18 August 2009

Emperors Palace to fire up the taste buds at the sizzling Indian Food Festival exclusive to Emperors Palace

Emperors Palace in association with SAA is proud to host the sensational Indian Food Festival in Aurelia's Restaurant, situated inside the D'oreale Grande Hotel at the entertainment resort.  The Indian Food Festival will run from 25 - 28 August with a special Gala Dinner on 29 August. Fans of Indian Cuisine are in for a real treat - taste buds will once again be tantalised with exotic flavours and spices at this international food spectacle.

Overlooking the beautiful manicured lawns and pool area, Aurelia's Restaurant has hosted a number of popular food festivals over the past several years. In August 2006, the restaurant hosted the first Indian Food Festival and it was greeted with open arms by food lovers.  The 2009 Indian Food Festival will be no different. For R215 per person, guests will be taken on a sensational taste adventure with the Taj Hotel Group chefs as they experiment with spices and exotic flavours introducing new and modern recipes.

Emperors Palace will also be hosting a Gala Dinner in the Assembly Room in the Convention Centre on 29 August for R265 per person.  The evening will include live entertainment, hand painting and classic Indian dancing not to mention the finest Indian cuisine prepared by the well renowned Indian chefs.

International Indian culinary experts Hubert Pereira, Bachaspati Painoli, and Chandrakant Sutar will be flown in especially for the festival, offering guests a visual delight as well as an explosion of unique flavours for the palate. While many Indian cuisine aficionados will recognise some of the more traditional dishes on display; the chefs will undoubtedly prepare a number of specialist dishes in a manner distinct to their own style and region.

In 2006, Chef Hubert Pereira, the Executive Chef of Taj SATS Air Catering Limited, Mumbai visited South Africa.  This incredibly knowledgeable and charismatic chef was part of a team at the Taj Group of hotels and was responsible for producing 18 000 meals daily.  Chef Pereira began his career with the internationally renowned Taj Group in 1972 at their flagship hotel - The  Taj Mahal in Mumbai. A regular at many international food festivals, he has won a number of accolades from some of the worlds' most prestigious airlines including: Caterer of the year (Singapore Airlines); Excellence in In-flight Catering (El AL); Best caterer (Delta Airlines); Best Asian Cuisine onboard (Singapore Airlines); Most Consistent Caterer (Cathay Pacific).

Attracting food enthusiasts from all over, the international food festivals have become a firm favourite amongst novices and culinary experts alike, and the Indian Food Festival is no different. Wayne Hill, General Manager for Emperors Palace Hotels and Resort Operations says, "What makes these initiatives so important for our chefs at Emperors Palace is the experience gained by working with the finest international chefs.  We are proud to host this prestigious event again and are excited about the impact it will have on South African Tourism and the restaurant industry as a whole.  In addition, we are proud to say that we use South African products and produce as much as possible for the recipes, with the exception of only a few spices brought in to the country".
