Emperors Palace kicks off winter with electrifying entertainment!

June and July 2010 will change the pace of the country as thousands of tourists will flock to South African shores, and local schools break up early for the school holidays. Emperors Palace, Johannesburg’s ultimate family entertainment destination has a spectacular line-up of events planned to excite, delight and mesmerize visiting sports lovers, family, friends, and even the little ones.
A must-see is Richard Loring's international musical sensation, "African Footprint" which will thrill audiences with its spectacular song and dance routines, and will proudly keep the South African flag flying high as it tells the tale of African history, culture and spirit. "African Footprint" will be performed on stage at the Theatre of Marcellus in June. Tickets start from R185 per person and can be bought at the Emperors Palace Box Office or through Computicket. The Odeon Showbar offers a glittering cabaret revue as its main attraction with the razzmatazz musical spectacular "Adrenalin" showing until the end of July. This cabaret is the brainchild of director Rob Pucci and will definitely leave audiences begging for more. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the sensational musical repertoire performed by the talented vocal trio, Ali Pucci, Kurt and Tia Herman. The music spans various genres and offers something for everyone; including classics from the Rolling Stones to Elton John; to the 80's hits including "Juke Box Hero" by Foreigner. Marc Antony's Tobacconist and Cigar Lounge offers guests a host of sensational musical acts and performances. Enjoy the sultry sounds of ex Idols Singer Melanie Louw; Mark and Dezi; Gerry Azor; Outback; and Barcode whilst savouring some of the world's finest cigars and premium whisky. Talented duo Rob and Ali, White Rabbit and Devinity perform before and after the show at the Odeon Showbar to keep the celebration and musical serenading going.
Reggae fans are in for a treat with a performance by sensational local outfit "Tidal Waves", who will perform at 64 @ The Palace on 21 June. "Tidal Waves" write and perform original reggae music with traditional African musical influences like Maskandi, Mbaqanga, Ska as well as rock. The group is widely regarded as the hardest working reggae band in South Africa, playing gigs from Oppikoppi to Pretoria and Cape Town to Potchefstroom. 64 @ The Palace also boasts a live performance by acclaimed 2005 SAMA award winner for "Best Adult Contemporary Album", Phinda on 22 June. Phinda is well-known for her performance of "Rafiki" in the Lion King stage production, spending two years in Toronto, Canada, but since her return to South African shores has wowed audiences and gathered a fan base that just keeps growing. After a three year break, the creative genius Steve Hofmeyr returns to launch his new album "Duisend En Een" from 14 to 24 July in the Theatre of Marcellus. This album is Hofmeyr's first new Afrikaans album since "Waarmaker". Tickets start at R135 per person and can be bought through the Emperors Palace Box Office or Computicket.
During the extended winter school holidays, Joburg's parents will undoubtedly be left with the question of how to keep their children entertained in a safe and fun environment. The solution might be simpler than you think. A must-see show for the younger audience is the new magical creation "Fairy Dust". Children with vivid imaginations will be transported into an exciting and interactive world of magic, illusion and mystery in this show performed by illusionist, Vicus Cruywagen. Children are encouraged to participate in the show to experience the effects and excitement first hand. "Fairy Dust" will be performed at 64 @ The Palace from 11 June, Wednesday's to Sundays. The incomparable and modern Jupiter's entertainment hub provides specially designed fantasy play rooms, including a marvellous art room and a "neuro-interactive" edutainment room that will blow aspiring astronauts away. Jupiter's also boasts a mini cinema room where all the latest DVD's are available for the little ones to watch while being looked after by trained child minders. For thrill seeking teens (and adults) there is the Magic Company, a games arcade offering the hippest video and arcade games!
Nu Metro Emperors Palace houses one of the largest theatres on the African continent, seating over 500 people.
