The icy bite of winter signals a brand new line-up of incredible entertainment at Emperors Palace this May. From laid-back contemporary adult entertainment to rich cultural performances from local Afrikaans actors, and an international superstar; there’s nothing left to be desired at the Palace of Dreams.
or the month of May, Emperors Palace will bring visitors a laugh-a-minute with ‘My Boetie se Sussie se Ou’, a comedic production that will have the family in stitches! Frans Swart, the king of farce directs Ray Cooney’s ‘Caught in the Net’ that was masterfully translated into Afrikaans by Pierre van Pletzen. Enjoy the complicated antics of John Smit unfold in the newly revamped Theatre of Marcellus. The show will be performed every Tuesday to Sunday evening from 13 May to 01 June 2014 and tickets are priced from R130 per person.
Emperors Palace will be aglow for one night only as the international Greek sensation Anna Vissi performs her biggest hits at the Centre Court on 24 May. The talented Vissi stands amongst some of the world’s most prolific singers, songwriters and composers as she has performed her chart topping melodies and songs at venues ranging from Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies to the Royal Albert Hall. At the threshold of her four decade-long career, Vissi has recorded twenty-five Greek albums, one English album, reinvented her music style from piano to rock to amazing hybrids, and gained platinum status many times over – this is a concert not to be missed. On Sunday, 25 May, the D’oreale Grande’s Gardens of Vespasian will have chilled winter vibes of another kind on offer as Emperors Palace will launch the Really Good Weekends series of picnic concerts. Soulful house band, MiCasa will be setting the tone for a day of laid-back tunes, whilst Afro-pop diva, Unathi will spoil the crowd with her sultry voice. Gates open at 12h00 and bookings are essential as limited tickets are available. All ages are welcome and concert goers can bring chairs, blankets and umbrellas. Food and beverage will be on sale. Tickets are priced at R250 per ticket with special discounts for Winners Circle members.
Winter Wonderland at Emperors Palace ends off the month of May with a healthy dose of amusement with Kings and Queens of Comedy. 30 and 31 May will see the monarchs of South African comedy under one roof as the Kings and Queens of Comedy national tour comes to an end in a two night performance in Gauteng. Hosting the evening of hilarity is the famous comedy doctor Riaad Moosa as MC, joined by the male monarchs of mirth Paul Chowdhry (UK), Prince Abdi (UK), Trevor Gumbi, Mark Banks, Stuart Taylor, Chester Missing, Jason Goliath and Donovan Goliath. The Queens of comedy lined-up for the evening are two of the funniest local ladies Tracey Lee Oliver and Celeste Ntuli, with a special appearance from UK’s Ava Vidal. Tickets start from R180 per person.
