19 February 2010
It is official, Peermont’s magnificent Grand Palm Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort in Gaborone, Botswana, has clinched the prestigious title of Botswana’s Leading Resort for the third time at the World Travel Awards held in May at the International Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa. Situated in the heart of Gaborone, the Grand Palm has recently undergone a 24.2million Pula upgrade, setting the benchmark as the premier destination for both business and leisure travelers in Botswana.
Hailed as the "Oscars" of the travel industry, the glittering award ceremony celebrates excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry and is considered one of the most respected awards in the global travel business.
"We are thrilled to have won this award and are very proud of our achievement. Winning this award means the world to us, especially considering the fact that our industry peers voted for us. We believe this is the greatest form of recognition in our industry," says Charne Christensen, Marketing Manager at The Grand Palm.
In 2008 this impressive Peermont resort underwent a complete upgrade which included an expansion and refurbishment of the casino, a complete refurb of the Walmont Hotel's exclusive executive floor business lounge, bedroom and bathrooms and a total revamp of the Livingstone's restaurant into the contemporary Mokolwane Bistro.
"With a range of table games, and very latest slot machines our stylish new casino has been a great hit amongst local and international travelers," says Christensen. "The upgrade has ensured that the resort is a sought after destination amongst business and leisure travelers who continue to visit Botswana's premier business and entertainment address," says Christensen.
With its luxury accommodation, exceptional entertainment and world class conference facilities incorporating the Gaborone International Convention Centre, the resort is also well known for its service excellence and warm, welcoming Botswana hospitality. The modern three star Metcourt Grand Palm Hotel offers guests affordable luxury while the four star Walmont Grand Palm Hotel boasts its own unique charm and elegance.
Also safely stowed away in the award cabinet at the Grand Palm is 2008 Diamond Arrow Award for best Convention Centre in Botswana, 2008 Best Casino/Entertainment Centre in Botswana and the 2006 and 2007 World Travel Awards for Botswana's Leading Resort.
Graham E. Cooke, founder and president, World Travel Awards says; "Winners of the World Travel Awards Africa Ceremony are very special brands, dedicated to being the absolute best in all aspects of ‘customer experience'. Their success here at a country-wide and global level means they will further improve their international profile as well as reach out to new customers."
