China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe to delight audiences at Emperors Palace

02 March 2011

Emperors Palace proudly presents, for the first time in South Africa, a unique performance by the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe for 6 shows only from 27 April to 1 May in the Theatre of Marcellus.

The show, aptly called My Dream, features a cast of talented performers all under the age of 18, who will dramatically illustrate the creative potential that lies at the heart of every person, regardless of physical challenges imposed through disability. The performers, with varying degrees of disability, impart their magic through dance and performance like never seen before. The performers impacted with hearing impairments will ‘speak' their minds through graceful and colourful dances; while artists with visual impairments depict their imaginary world with beautiful melodies and charmingly dance steps; whilst those with physical disabilities give expression to their pursuit of life, with elegant postures and spirited melodies.

The China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe was founded in 1987 in a mission to afford people living with disabilities a platform to express themselves in a special art. It brings forth new ideas independently that demonstrate the indomitability of the human spirit. My Dream has travelled to more than 40 countries in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa and have been referred to as "Messengers of Beauty and Humanity" by the international community and as "A Special Art Star of Mankind and Image Ambassadors for 600 Million People with Disabilities in the World" by the Disabled People's International 6th World Assembly.

"We are honoured to host a performance of such calibre, where people living with disabilities will be showcasing their outstanding talents to the South African audience", says Andi Shaughnessy, Peermont Entertainment Manager.

"My Dream goes beyond the boundaries of culture, nations and countries and brings joy and education to audiences", says Guo Xiaofei, Vice Director of Marketing Department for the Troupe.

The show will be performed from Wednesday to Friday at 20h00, Saturday at 15h00 and 20h00, and Sunday at 19h30. Tickets start from R95 per person and can be purchased at the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1297 or Computicket on 083 915 8000 or Contact the Emperors Palace Box Office for special show and dinner packages available at Queen of the Nile and Fu Li Hua.
