Peermont ramps up improvement plans in 2011

05 May 2011

Peermont Hotels Casinos and Resorts, one of South Africa’s leading casinos and hotels group, is anticipating another busy year of new developments and exciting additions to its product portfolio.

The resorts offer a unique and superior experience, underpinned by the Peermont philosophy of providing guests with the best possible service in line with international standards, at rates that reflect good value for money.

An early highlight of 2011 was the launch of the re-branded Umfolozi Hotel Casino Convention Resort after a substantial R115-million makeover. Originally Tusk Umfolozi, this resort located 15km from Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, is an iSiZulu welcome as the hotel design offers a fresh and contemporary take on Zulu culture that will charm guests.

New additions to the resort include the chic 44 room 3-star Peermont Metcourt hotel, the dynamic convention facilities that can accommodate up to 200 guests while the dome-like multi-purpose arena can house up to 600 guests. There is an outdoor adventure park, perfect for team-building or a fun outing for the family.  With everything under one roof, Umfolozi is the perfect destination for a family break, corporate events, private functions as well as a business or leisure pit-stop en-route to surrounding areas.  The resort is situated on popular KwaZulu-Natal tourism routes; Empangeni is conveniently located near the juncture of routes heading east from the Battlefields area and the N2 highway.  Empangeni is off the N2 highway approximately one and half hours from King Shaka International Airport, and is a short drive to Richard's Bay. It is also enroute to the northern parts of Zululand to the Hluhluwa-Umfolozi Game Reserve, The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, Sodwana Bay Nature Reserve, Lake Sibaya and Kosi Bay.

In February 2011 Mmabatho Palms Hotel Casino and Convention Resort in Mafikeng, in the North West province, opened a spa and fitness centre to complement the excellent facilities of the recently refurbished resort. The Palms Retreat Wellness Spa offers a wide range of treatments including non-surgical technologies for aging and slimming. The Palms Retreat Fitness Centre has the latest in exercise equipment backed with weight training programmes. The wellness spa offers massages, facials, anti-ageing treatments, body treatments for slimming, firming, energizing and exfoliating, hand and feet therapy, grooming for both men and women, access to an infrared sauna and a sun bed.

Due to open soon is the Camelot Spa at the Peermont Mondazur Resort on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast at San Lameer. It is immersed in an enchanting sub-tropical ambiance, set between sea and sky, presenting itself as South Africa's latest coastal destination spa - where wellness is the true destination. The spa's luxurious facilities, present a renaissance for the senses, including a flotation pool with underwater lights and a Rasul Chamber with twinkling LED light roof while nine therapy rooms are cocooned in a separate area for complete relaxation and regeneration, (two of which are couples suites complete with hydrotherapy baths).

At check-in, guests are offered a quick, non-invasive Body Lifestyle Index which measures levels of hydration, toxicity and body mass, enabling the therapist to recommend the correct wellness treatment for overall well-being.

The gracious 40 room, 4-star Mondazur Resort Estate Hotel at San Lameer is one of the most desired holiday destinations in South Africa. Visitors to Mondazur leave with memories of glistening waters, romance and tropical landscapes, all of which is enhanced by trails and hikes through spectacular terrain along with an 18-hole championship golf course.

Graceland Hotel Casino Country Club is now more accessible following the opening of the N17 highway.  A short distance from the O.R. Tambo International Airport, Graceland now features the Hobby Hotspot Paintball Circuit which is proving popular with team building and corporate groups. The 18-hole championship inland links-style golf course designed by legendary golfer Gary Player is a golfer's wonderland. It sports a mix of elevation changes, water hazards, rolling fairways and strategically-placed bunkering. The resort has also become more environmentally conscious by adopting strong energy saving initiatives.

The group recently celebrated two awards for excellence from the World Luxury Awards organization. The 5-star recipients were the Peermont D'oreale Grande at Emperors Palace near the O.R. Tambo International Airport which topped the ‘2010 World Luxury Hotel Award', and the Peermont Walmont at The Grand Palm in Gaborone, named ‘Botswana's Leading Hotel'.

All 14 Peermont properties, innovative and ongoing promotional campaigns to draw the crowds are in full flight. Family specials on accommodation, entertainment and dining; value-added weekend packages; special options for niche markets such as golfers; seasonal promotions and gaming competitions accompanied by enticing prizes are some of the programmes on offer.  The resorts' entertainment programmes continue to attract top South African artists and shows.

Peermont is anticipating improved international tour operator support and growth in the economy in 2011. "The group continues to build on its solid reputation for staging conferences, special events, weddings and corporate entertainment, as well as engaging with its communities through various ongoing CSI programmes. We look forward to an exciting 2011 and beyond, and delegates are welcome to visit us at Indaba at Hall 3, stand ICCH008," says Jegie Padmanathan, Peermont Chief Operating Officer - Hotels and Resorts.
