Stars of the Ballet Moscow to enchant Emperors Palace
08 April 2013
Stars of the Ballet Moscow to enchant Emperors Palace Following the successful South African tour in 2011, Stars of the Ballet Moscow will return to the superbly appointed Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace on 15 and 16 June. Former director of the Bolshoi Ballet, Yuri Vetrov, has prepared a magnificent new programme that will celebrate the music of great Russian composers, Sergei Rachmaninov and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. According to organiser Wynand de Villiers, from ASG, many national Classics presented post-race kermesses as part of the entertainment in the past, but the focus on mass participation has seen this invitation-only event dwindle.
In the first act the show tribute will be paid to Rachmaninov’s famous Paganini that was staged at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1960 and performed to the choreography of Leonid Lavrovsky. Other delightful pieces will include an Adagio from Symphony No 2 and All by Myself, choreographed by Vetrov. The second act of the programme will include masterpieces of the world classical ballet such as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, and extracts from famous ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.
These are only some of the performances that will be featured in the enchanting Stars of the Ballet Moscow. Tickets start from R140 per person and can be booked by visiting www.emperorspalace.com or phoning (011) 928 1297/1213 or on Computicket at www.computicket.com. The show will be performed at 15h00 and 20h00 on 15 June and at 15h00 on 16 June. Winners Circle discounts apply.
