Rio Resort opens two Moo-tiful new food and drink hotspots!

18 February 2013

Steer your way to Rio Hotel Casino and Convention Resort in Klerksdorp for the opening of not one but two sensational new food and beverage venues – the elegantly styled and sophisticated, Karamba Grillhouse, a true meat lover’s dream, and the delightfully “all things cow” designed Moo Bar.

Set to become Klerksdorp’s finest steak house, the Karamba Grillhouse offers an extensive menu with must-try specialty dishes including the Red Wine Oxtail Potjie, a connoisseur’s delight finished with pearl onions and butter beans and the Prime Beef Taster, any meat lover’s dream with 800g of prime beef that includes centre cut fillet, sirloin strips and rump. Aficionados of pasta will delight in dishes like Tagliatelle with Vodka Flambéed Prawns. Sweet temptations such as the Karamba Choc Volcano, a decadent chocolate dessert with an extra serving of pure chocolate and a shot of berries and cream, is an absolute must.

Steered by Executive Chef, Johan van Tonder and his two Sous Chefs, Andrew Mkhombo and Riaan Coetzee, these three musketeer chefs are renowned for their passion for creating dishes with bold flavours in a simple yet sophisticated presentation. Karamba’s menu offers a variety of tastes and flavours from every culture and the essence is epitomised in prime cuts of meat, fish and poultry, complimented by extraordinary sides and extras to please the palate and tantalise all taste buds.

The 90-seater restaurant has a contemporary feel combining timber floors and screens with cow hide patterns and designs to create a stylish but intimate environment - completed with a delightful sense of humour. Innovative finishes include stainless steel, modern floating lights and illuminated grass. The Karamba Grillhouse extends onto the terrace with an outside seating area to create a more informal dining and social environment – perfect for those warm, summer evenings.

Moo Bar is an innovative cocktail bar, ideal for pre or post drinks after dinner at Karamba, or for after- conference refreshments, catching the game on a Saturday afternoon or enjoying a lazy Jazzy Sunday. Striking design features and unique concepts include glass bottles with swimming fish, glowing fire flames and a “party table” which comprises of large chrome cowbell lights and a mobile of colour perspex located in the centre of the bar.

Moo Bar’s extensive cocktail menu has been specially tailored to include both classics and the exotic. Treat yourself to a feast of specialities like the Bull Rider and Moo’s Blazer or go for the indulgent White Choc and Cinnamon Smash an udderly rich mix of vanilla Vodka, triple sec, shaken with milk and white chocolate syrup served in a specifically designed ceramic “Moo-Bar” jug.

Rio Resort General Manager, Clive Tavener comments, “We are very excited about the opening of these two new venues – they are unique and innovative, and therefore a welcome change for local visitors and out of town guests.”

“Although Karamba Grillhouse and Moo Bar are both linked they have been designed to stand alone - allowing complete flexibility while facilitating conference goers, hotel guests and casino visitors. Each venue has its own entrance and branding, providing two trendy and upmarket venues where visitors leave with unforgettable memories and fine dining experiences. If you consider yourself to be a bon vivant or lover of good food and good wine, then be sure to visit Karamba Grillhouse that is undoubtedly poised to become the premier grillhouse in Klerksdorp”, adds Tavener .

Karamba Grillhouse and Moo Bar are currently open for trade, for further information visit or visit the Rio Facebook page. To make a reservation call (018) 469 9100.
